We remark those bugs
that hurl themselves
toward the light
and perhaps, because
we too are focused there,
we miss all those insects
that rocket themselves
deeper and deeper
quiet, as fast as they can
into the infinite dark.
How Would We Know

The bugs as subject for mystery, our own. Very creepy:). Light and dark, visible and invisible, but I’m having a spot of trouble with that opening phrase “we remark” — the syntax just rattles a bit right there for me, as if I should be expecting an actual remark. Of course, I know you mean we notice, but still…

Maybe open with, “We mention…”?
Until Anon mentioned it, I hadn’t fully noticed the “toward the light”/”deeper into the darkness” dichotomy. I’d notice it, but wasn’t “seeing” it.
Lines from an Indigo Girls song are looping in my mind: Darkness has a hunger that’s insatiable/and lightness has a call that’s hard to hear.
