tethered only
to the breeze
this strand
of floating
spider silk
catches
nothing
but
light
it’s a swing
for the
imagination
a rope
thrown
from
heaven
to dance
with it
all we need
to do
is breathe

“A swing for the imagination” is a good line here, one that makes me wonder how the spider sees it:>)
to dance/with it/all we need/to do/is breathe
two distinct and important ways to read this closing stanza: as instruction (“just breathe) and invitation/permission (if you’re able to breathe, then you’ll able/allowed to dance); and I don’t think we’re intended to choose between them.
