A purple crocus,
a hole in the clouds,
an empty lipstick case,
a pearl button,
scent of mint,
a left turn signal,
yellowed lace—
ask the world a question
and what can’t be seen
as a potential sign—
star-shaped balloon,
unbruised apple,
elk by the highway,
accidental rhyme.
Loverly list poem.
The middle section, ask the world a question/and what can’t be seen/as a potential sign, threw me (and kinda keeps throwing me). I read it as a continuing of the listing, rather than a parenthetic questioning. Maybe if you placed it inside parentheses? I’m not sure how to fix it — or if it actually really needs fixing.
Nonetheless, I like it. Evocative and resonating.
