Just two weeks ago, it was sufficient
to say, hello, good morning, good bye.
But now, in every text, every email,
every phone call, I tell my friends
and family how much I love them.
I tell them life is better because
they are in it. I say it with the urgency
of a woman who knows she could die,
who knows this communication could be our last.
I slip bouquets into my voice. I weave love songs
into the spaces between words.
I infuse every letter, every comma, with prayers.
Sometimes it makes me cry, not
out of fear, but because the love is so strong.
How humbling to feel it undiluted,
shining, like rocks in the desert after a rain,
to know love as the most important thing,
to remember this as I keep on living.
Just the poem for the day. And the photo. I am so grateful that you and your words are in my life.
Thank you, Jan,
May we all be well. I am grateful for you–I wonder if by July we’ll be able to meet in in Alabama? These are such strange times. Love to you, to your family.
I keep the image before me of all of us together in Fairhope. I believe it will happen. Peace to you
I’ll do the same!
So right for right now! Thank you for finding the words!

Thank you, Linda–you must practice with Jill? I just “saw” her in retreat today and she told me that she had shared some poems–I’m so glad this one spoke to you.
Most needed poem for the time we are in.
Love,
Lakshmy
thank you, Lakshmy–it was a revelation to me, too, what I had learned from this experience.
