Just this morning
the leaves were green
in this stand of aspen
that now flash gold—
it happens that fast,
though of course
there is nothing
quick about it.
It took a whole season
to grow the leaf
and nurture it into
brilliance. And
it took decades
to grow the tree that grew
the leaf. And what
of evolution? Oh patience.
Perhaps this is why
on the woman who’s finally learning
how to sit still beside the leaves
there’s a bit of salt water
sliding down her skin.
…and about that salt water. Sweat, teardrop, the sea reclaiming the dry land after she’s been there so long with such bottomless patience?
But, ahh… ain’t time funny stuff? Stuff sits and sits, seeming changing not a whit. And suddenly, in less time than it takes a New York minute to blink an eye, shazam! Instant transformation. Well, not really so instant. Just because we didn’t see it being prepared over an expansive amount of time for the seed crystal to be dropped in doesn’t mean nothing was happening, everything remained the same. Just because you didn’t see the seed fertilize the egg doesn’t mean it didn’t happen; and that you weren’t preggers until the pee-stick turned blue.
Stuff changes all in a thunderclap, after patiently waiting millennia.
good one!

It hapeens that fast though there is nothing quick about it: exactly! Evolution is the leap you make to slow the whole thing down, veerrrry slow. Now dry your tear and go to bed:)
lucky drop of water on its way back to the sea….
