to walk the aspen
knowing they will die
or to not walk
the aspen?

on the table
the shadow of smoke
from the candle
how many other ghosts
do I not see in this room?

which is better
loving you although
it hurts, or
well, there are, it seems
no other options
I’ll have to look this Izumi up, very great spirit if these are representative:)
One and two are my favorites, number two all set for Halloween!
I like the turn at the end of the third “spirit.” The recognition that, afterall, “there are…no other options.” Of course, I see this circling back to answer the question of the first: To not walk the aspens isn’t worse—it’s not even an option.
As for that shadow of smoke…the candle was never even lit, was it?
Funny, I didn’t mention the candle part quite right, though I like your reading. The candle was lit, but there was no visible smoke, only the shadow of smoke.
🙂 r
well, blame it on my inhabiting an alternate universe that that i misread, misperceived the candle incident.
so…no smoke, just its shadow… hmmmm… like heat? we don’t see it, per se, but we do see its waves, its shadows (of course, ’tis often the same thing with love…)
