my whole life
preparing me for this moment—
10:19 p.m.
*
rolling down my window
to ask directions, hearing
a chorus of birds
*
new snow on the grass
this, too, the scent
of exploded stars
*
please, I said
to the sun, don’t go
some part of me
reveling in asking
the impossible

thanks Alan! I didn’t see the poem … but I love thinking about how this moment 17 years ago was also this moment …
Such an excellent minute! Wasn’t it Blake who said there’s an infinity in a grain of sand? Or an eternity, or something like that. That’s what you have arranged here, minus the hourglass.
