you ask why
I whisper, it’s so you
come closer
*
hidden in the duff
brown caps of boletes—so many
lives we never see
*
so wide, this road,
still we can’t find a way
to walk side by side
*
darling
I am still
whispering

I like that you open and close in this one with the whispers. There’s something about the word itself, the whisper, that builds on closeness and in these almosts it seems right for the reader not to forget to listen.
