It’s not that the queen’s crown changed anything,
not really. All it was doing was growing there
in the field beside the spruce.
But there it was, succulent and pink.
And there I was, not even knowing
how desperately I wanted to find
something beautiful, until I stumbled
on the flower, hiding as it was in the tall, tall grass.
And though it changed nothing,
it changed everything, the day
suddenly marked by treasure,
by luck. There are, surely, thousands
of chances each day for such astonishment,
thousands of openings
I never see, thousands of opportunities
to say, “This, this is why I am here.”
Crazy that finding a flower in the tall, tall grass
could obscure a whole world of troubles.
At least for a moment.
I will tell you where to find it,
though it wouldn’t be the same
if you were looking for it.
No, better to walk wherever it is
you are walking, better to stumble
as often as you can.
reminds me of an essay from a noted ohio writer.

Dang, I adore him.

Hi Rosemerry I continue to enjoy your words as I see them come through most mornings– not much holds my attention– most in the outer world only go so far but you have a more tenacious grip on life– really like your poetry so very easy yet worth the time– I hope you are having a good summer. G
I like this one bunches, really. Just a graceful arc to finding an epiphany in a flower. Great closing line too. Nice! The only note that sounds flat to me is the tense you choose line 20-22, but instead of explaining I’ll just copy below how it wanted to be read by me:>) It will save you a lot of time trying to figure out what I mean.
I will tell you where to find it,
though it won’t be the same
if you are looking for it.
Dearest Rosemerry,
I’m using this amazing piece as the opening and theme for the 9th anniversary of an early morning Saturday yoga class I started during chemotherapy. It tells a story so poignant and halting. I so appreciate your vision, your patience, your urgency – you. Thank you for sharing your light. The world needs it.
Love and Namaste
Augusta

Augusta,
Congratulations on the anniversary! And thank you for sharing the poem. I’m so grateful it spoke to you, and I appreciate the new life you bring to it.
With gratitude for you in the world,
Rosemerry
