Hi friends,
My TEDx talk on The Art of Changing Metaphors has finally come out on youtube! The premise: Our thoughts are made of frames, many of them unconscious. Identify them and change them, and you can change the way you engage with the world.
I hope you enjoy watching it! Let me know if you try it … and what might happen!
I loved getting to see the public speaking side of you, Rosemerry.
Goodness gravy, how I wanted to be there. Did you memorize your speech, or were there tele-prompters?
I’ve bookmarked it as a favor; along with Sarah Kay.
Hee hee no teleprompters. Thanks for the nice words, Eduardo. Hugs to you! Is the public speaking side of me so different from the other sides? Maybe just louder? r

There’s a difference between doing a poetry reading and doing a talk/presentation. For your TEDx talk, you seemed more playful, and more animated (as opposed to standing behind a podium, reading your poems). Too, I’ve never seen you blend your singing so boundaryless. There wasn’t any break or pause. You finished a sentence, sang the blues, spoke the next sentence. It was Rosemerry doing what Rosemerry does, that I’d never experienced until then.
Also, oddly perhaps, you seemed more confident, more in command of both your presentation and of the audience, than I’ve ever seen you, I think. I delighted in seeing these sides of you that were new to me.
Ahh, I see what you mean. Thanks, Eduardo, I especially had to laugh that you noticed Christie and I were wearing the same nail polish. That was definitely a little inside joke. r

Thanks for posting this link. A great job you did, and beside the message you presented, it was fun to catch a glimpse of how your brain works in the writing you do.
Thanks, David!
It was so fun to write the speech, and rewrite and rewrite and rewrite

I’ve only just watched this today but I loved it so much! Especially your response poem about the donkey. I think hearing someone read their poem out loud shows another layer of depth to it, you get to hear how the author wrote it. And your singing voice is beautiful! Broadway-ready! But all that aside, the main point to your talk about metaphors definitely made me think about how I use them. I’ve started listening out for them and it’s so interesting! Glad I got to watch this, even belatedly 😁
Thanks for watching it! If you do identify some metaphors to change, please, let me know!

Thanks Kendel, if you find that you notice any new frames for your life, please let me know! I would love to hear about them.
