I am sorry to be so deep, he says,
his voice broken. The shade
pools around us as we speak.
He tells me of his surgeries,
then notes the gold in the leaves.
My teacher, he says, he took his life.
I wonder at the light that seems
to infuse the difficult words.
He was my hero, he says.
Sadly beautiful.
yes, thank you, Jazz, it was as you say such a sad and beautiful encounter.

The sparseness makes it even more heartbreaking!! It’s like a violin that made the best eight-note combination then walked off the stage. I loved how full of life this is. So rich in layers without clutter. Thank you.
Thanks, Iris! The interaction was so brief, and I felt the poem wanted to meet it that way. Like a violin concert of 8 notes indeed so well said.

PS. Awesome blog title. May I use that phrase some time?
Hi Iris, thanks for your comment and for this sweet P.S.
I adapted the title from a Rumi poem. Here it is so moving, yes?
May hundreds of veils fall for you moment after moment after moment!
This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally to take a step without feet.
