It’s not adrenaline after all,
but the bones that tell the body
to fight, to freeze, to flee.
The bones send the hormone
that tells the heart to beat faster,
tells lungs to breathe quicker, tells glucose
to pump through the body as fuel.
The odd gift: the same bones
that tell us to run away
help us stand and see it through.

Love the way you find wonders in science. You show us how to revel in the miraculous around and in us. Thank you Rosemerry.
Isn’t this quite something?? Yes to the miracles all around us, yes to seeing them, reveling together!
Indeed it is a wonder! I remember being floored when I first learned that chronic stress can literally change the chemical make-up of one’s bones. Then there is the absolute magic of connection, of endorphins and especially of oxytocin and how it literally changes our brain. We’re magic.
right!? Magic indeed! The body is so crazy amazing!
Yep! Never ending wonder, ’tis!
