Most of the time, an aspen stand regenerates itself through cloning from its extensive underground connected root structure. But, sometimes, given very specific conditions, they can introduce genetic diversity through seed germination.

In the spirit of diversity
the aspen catkins
appear on the passes,
gathering low light
into acres of radiance
as they dangle
from bare limbs
in long clusters of gray fuzz
and all I want
for the rest of my life
is to be worthy of living
in a world with such
potent softness, such promise.
such potent softness such promise….. your words are potent! Yesterday I saw some swans first time in this area they are so gracious and elegant. Saraswati (Hindu Goddess of wisdom, learning) it is said swans were her vehicle.
Ahhhhh! Swan as vehicle … and so gracious and elegant and FIERCE!!
oh how we need diversity, such promise!
yes! that is what excited me about this poem, too!
Yes those Divine Mothers were all compassionate but could be fierce as teachers!
From the beauty of the particulars of nature and transcending to the intellectual goodness of diversity you inspire us toward a soft, kind and gentle society.
